Small Class Sizes

We only accept 8 students per class - recent studies have shown that small class sizes increase student confidence and achievement, particularly in the early years of their education.  Additionally, it improves the quality of socialization and the one-on-one attention they will receive, to set a great tone for their elementary school years.

Each child has their unique strengths and weaknesses, and by identifying them we are better able to work one-on-one with each student's needs.  With such a small class size, we are fortunate to get to know each child and give them each the special attention they deserve.

Volunteer Requirements

  • No volunteer requirements
  • Speech Pathologist information & screening included in tuition (for September enrollments only)

As we are a privately run preschool program, our parents have no volunteer requirements. However we do encourage parents to participate in the classroom in various roles throughout the year.

About Our Program

The Dominelli School of Music Preschool offers a rich sensory environment where the children experience music, art, literacy through phonics, and other important skills in preparation for Kindergarten.

Each day, students will participate in 30 minutes of music instruction, using our Rock Kids program - developed by local educators specifically for Dominelli School of Music.  Students will play piano, ukulele, violin, drums, and more - while learning about rhythm, and active listening. Students write an original song each year and have it professionally recorded and released on Spotify and iTunes.  Click Here to listen to our 2019 album.  They also perform annually at the Edmonton Oil Kings Game.

Studies have shown that early musical experiences are an important way to help create neural connections in your child's actively developing brain. While listening to music is certainly key to creating them, it's when kids actively participate in music that they make the strongest connections.

Research shows that kids who are actively involved in music (who play it or sing it regularly):

- Do better in reading and math when they start school

- Are better able to focus and control their bodies

- Play better with others and have higher self-esteem

In addition to experiencing music each day, the children will experience early literacy program Jolly Phonics.  This is a fun and child centered approach to teaching literacy through synthetic phonics. With actions for each of the 42 letter sounds, the multi-sensory method has been well researched and proven to give preschool children an advanced understanding of literacy prior to their 1st school year.

All In A Day At Preschool

Here is a schedule of what we do in our day, so you know what is happening in your little person's world at preschool:

Free Play - Toys and puzzles are out during the first 20 minutes of class until everyone is settled in.

Yoga - Students participate in a yoga practice each day where we stretch and connect with our breath.

Choo Choo Train To The Potty - We make a choo choo train by lining up and putting hands on each other's shoulders to head to the bathroom and wash hands before snack time.

Snack Time - We have snack time early in the day, because we want them to have a full belly heading into all of the learning we are about to do.  Parents provide their own snacks, and we request whole foods and water to drink, so we can learn about the food groups in class.

Reading Time - We put out library books for the kids to look at and read while we clean up from snack time.

Movement & Gymnastics - In partnership with Dynamyx Gymnastics we offer our students gymnastics fundamentals, as well as other active movement including dance and gross motor games.

Structured Learning Time - We talk about the theme of the week, practice words that begin with that letter, learn a song about it, trace it in the air, write it on paper, and more creative ways to inspire the children to get excited about letters, shapes, numbers, days of the week, and more!

Art/Experiment - On to the craft table we go, where we introduce tactile crafts using hands and feet, paint brushes and fruit stamps to inspire learning related to the theme of the week. Every second week students engage an experiment, from volcanoes to color mixing, there is always a new way to explore our world.

Music Time - Each day the children play real instruments including drums, piano, ukulele, violin, singing and more. Students receive level 1 and 2 Rock Kids certificates throughout their first preschool year and complete level 3 in year two.
