Dominelli Music is so excited for our 12th year of Fine Arts Preschool in North Edmonton!  We are so proud to have supported hundreds children in their early learning through a holistic, arts based approach.

We offer a small class size to introduce your child to a school environment in a comfortable and supportive way.  With only 6 children per class, each student receives lots of one on one support from our instructors in their emotional and intellectual needs.  Every student also receives an assessment from a Speech and Language Pathologist prior to their first class, so that we can support their unique learning needs.  We believe that the best possible early learning environment is not so different from home, but just enough that it supports their independence and ability to grow socially through friendships and a combination of structured and unstructured learning time.

We have three different classrooms that the students rotate between.  A yoga and theatre room, an art and academic room, and a music lesson room of course!

Our program offers flexible enrollment, so you can sign up for one day per week - or 5 days per week - and everything in between.  This way you can do preschool in the way that works best for your schedule and lifestyle.

What does a day at preschool look like?

Preschool students will start each day with a yoga and mindfulness practice, then move into the early learning component where they will learn letters and numbers through our holistic, integrative approach.  They will then experience 30 minutes of our Rock Kids music class each day, playing real instruments and learning to sing - preparing for their bi-annual performance opportunity at the Dominelli Music recital.  Following that, they will alternate between art class and science class to inspire their creative potential.

What does it cost?

Fine Arts Preschool tuition is $25 per class, billed on the first of each month.

So for example, if you are enrolled in Mondays and Thursday mornings and there are 3 Mondays in the month and 5 Thursdays, you will be billed $25 x 8 classes = $200.

When we are closed on stat holidays and over Christmas break, you are not charged for those classes.  Our preschool program runs from September 3-June 30th each year.

There are no volunteer or fundraising requirements.

What is the schedule?

We have morning classes available Monday-Friday from 9:30am-Noon and afternoon classes available Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30-3:00pm.

With our flexible enrollment you can sign up for as many or as few days as you like!  Some families come one class per week, and others attend 5 days weekly.  It's completely up to you.  You can also add or subtract days as the year progresses (subject to space availability).

How old do the students need to be?

Our preschool program is designed for students ages 3-5.  We love supporting our older students (closer to age 5) in being classroom leaders to help the younger students, and build their confidence.  And our younger students benefit greatly from the small class sizes and coming into a classroom setting that is comfortable, safe, and less overwhelming than larger preschool programs.

What about potty training?

We completely understand that the potty situation can be tricky at this age.  We do ask that our students come in potty trained - however, we do not expect perfect consistency in this area, and we have found that being in preschool with their friends supports this learning process.  We take all students for regular potty breaks to get them into the habit of going to the washroom and washing their hands regularly.  We are comfortable with students wearing pull-ups to class if needed, however, we will not be changing diapers and require a change of clothes in case of an accident.  We are happy to work with you in this area to support your child, reach out to info@dominellimusic.com with any questions about the potty.  :-)

Will my child be safe?

As this is our 12th year of Fine Arts Preschool, we have a solid track record of zero injuries or serious incidents in our preschool program.  We believe this is due to the small class sizes, where we keep a very close eye on every child to make sure that we catch any behaviors or potential accidents before they happen.

Our Fine Arts Preschool teacher is fully background checked, and has first aid certification.  We also lock all doors at the facility once the children are on site so that no one can enter until it's time for pick-up.  With our small class sizes, we meet all of the parents and guardians, and make sure that the child is released only to those individuals at the time of pick-up.

Who is our teacher?

Ciana Lybbert is our Fine Arts Preschool teacher, and she is absolutely lovely and the kids adore her.  We call her Mary Poppins as she is truly magical and has the most beautiful singing voice.  Here is a bit about Ciana:

Ciana has always loved working with children, and she enjoys seeing their enthusiasm as they take their first steps into formal education. She has worked with children of various backgrounds and hopes to create a safe space where each child will feel confident as they interact with their peers and discover the foundations of learning. Growing up, she had the opportunity to interact with and help care for many children in the foster system. Through this experience, she has gained an appreciation of diversity, communication, and compassion. She enjoys teaching music, writing/reading, science, and arts and observing how children's confidence in themselves grows as they learn together.
